Mold: From the Ordinary to the Unhealthy (Part 1)
2/20/2019 (Permalink)
Fungi and mold naturally occur in our environment, and are even present in some of our food. In fact, there are over 100,000 kinds of fungi that have been identified. While most people consider fungi to be bad, not all types are unhealthy.
Fungi produce some very useful results. Yeast is a type of fungi used in preparing breads, baked goods, and some alcoholic beverages. Foods like blue cheese get their unique flavor as a result of mold, and an edible mushroom is simply a type of fungi! Even products like lifesaving penicillin are a product of mold.
Even though some forms of mold can add value to our lives, other forms can be harmful. Excessive amounts of mold, different types of mold, and exposure to molds may present health concerns for some people. If you are unsure of what type of mold you are dealing with, SERVPRO of Baldwin County can help!
