Massive Mold Remediation in Orange Beach Condominium
2020 may be known to the rest of the world as the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, but in our area, we experienced the unique combination of an unprecedented pandemic and a catastrophic hurricane. The hurricane made landfall in Gulf Shores, AL on September 16, 2020. The very slow moving Hurricane Sally dumped rain and heavy winds on the Gulf Coast as it made its way slowly north. The main causes of damage to property? Wind-driven rain, roof damage and leaks, and storm surge. As a result of the heavy wind, many windows and sliding glass doors had to be replaced in condominiums dotted across the beaches of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.
One client in particular did not have an easy repair process. Our client contacted us for an assessment after discovering water intrusion and mold throughout the units following a tropical storm in 2021. An industrial hygienist had previously been involved and provided a report showing abnormally high microbial growth throughout most of the units in the condominium. Included within the report was a protocol for how to remediate the damage along with a recommendation for the window contractor to repair the newly installed windows.
Performing the protocol was a massive undertaking as over 100 units were affected. Our team worked around the clock to have the units sanitized and ready for occupation. When the project was completed, our client told us that this project was the perfect example of why his association is glad to have a relationship with SERVPRO of Baldwin County.
